Wine and Dine in Grand Cayman

Plantana is currently closed while we give our property some love and care after a busy season of guests enjoying everything we have to offer. Like Plantana, some local restaurants also take the time to close their doors, take a much needed break and plan for the next season to kick off with a bang!

However, it is never too early to start planning your trip, so in this week’s blog we’ve pulled together a list of restaurants where delicious food meets perfectly paired wines.

We all know food tastes better when served with a delicate glass of champagne or a bold, textured red wine so we’ve pulled together a list of restaurants that place a strong emphasis not only on their food but also on the wine to match.

Grand Old House

Set on the magnificent Caribbean Sea, Grand Old House are known for their award winning wine list, Caribbean flavors and live music. When you arrive, ask to see the wine room, Nino (the in-house sommelier) will happily show you his ‘second home’. Give him a budget, tell him what you like, what you’ll be eating and he’ll find you a wine that you will never forget.

The Wharf

Located on the waterfront of Seven Mile Beach, the Wharf offers the choice of dining under the stars on their seaside patio, or in the air-conditioned comfort of their dining room.  The Wharf is the only restaurant in Cayman with an underground wine cellar, boasting over 500 wines including some of the world’s rarest finds.

The Cracked Conch

Caribbean delights and international flavors in an unparalleled setting, the Cracked Conch offer unobstructed views of the Caribbean Sea in a truly relaxing setting. Who says cocktails can’t be paired with food! Their indoor bubble bar serves drinks with flair that only the Caribbean knows how. You can tell them what you like and they will stir up a custom made cocktail for you on the spot, before they introduce you to their extensive wine list.

Bacaro

The newest Cayman Yacht Club Restaurant, Bacaro is famous for their sashimi served on a salt block, perfectly paired with a glass of Prosecco and enjoyed on their beautiful terrace overlooking the canals. The menu is inspired by traditional ‘bacari’ of Venice, featuring freshly caught seafood, locally grown vegetables and a tiramisu that is to die for. Their extensive and perfectly selected menu of international wines, by the glass or bottle, offers something for every taste bud. Ask the in-house sommelier for their personal suggestion.

Ristorante Papagallo

A beautiful location alongside a natural lagoon, Ristorante Papagallo offers indoor and outdoor dining, an Italian inspired menu together with an award-winning wine list featuring more than 350 wines. They offer one of the largest selections of wines in the Cayman Islands exclusively selected and imported for your dining pleasure. This is why wine aficionados from around the world return to Ristorante Pappagallo, year after year.

Cayman might be known for rum cocktails however we pride ourselves on first class dinning paired with some of the best wines in the world. Check out these restaurants or speak with the Plantana team about what other spots on island offer a variety of labels and wines, the list goes on and on and on.
