Spend a Day Exploring the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park

One of the perks of staying at Plantana Condominiums on Seven Mile Beach is how easy it is to explore beyond the shoreline. While the turquoise water is always calling, a short drive inland brings you one of the islands’ most beautiful attractions: the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park. After enjoying your morning coffee on your screened lanai, set off to explore this must-visit spot.

What to Do at the Cayman Attraction

The drive from our Seven Mile Beach property to the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park takes you through quieter corners of Grand Cayman, giving you a glimpse of the island beyond the shoreline. Once you arrive at the 65-acre park, there are plenty of places to explore. Plan to visit early in the morning before the midday heat hits, especially if you want the best chance of seeing blue iguanas basking along the paths.

Speaking of blue iguanas, one of the focal points of the attraction is the Blue Iguana Conservation Facility, a captive-breeding facility and test site for the blue iguana population. The facility is open daily for tours, and entry is included with general admission to the QEII Botanic Park.

The fun doesn’t stop there. There are plenty of spaces to explore, each with its own unique flair. As you wander the park, keep your eyes open for the butterflies that add an extra dimension to the gardens.

1. The Floral Colour Garden, which features different natural habitats, is laid out by colour, starting with pink and progressing through red, orange, yellow, white, blue, purple, and lavender.

2. Discover plants that have played an important role in Cayman’s History at the Heritage Garden.

3. Explore low-maintenance plants that require little water, like cacti, at the Xerophytic Garden.

4. Found on the edge of a Buttonwood Swamp, The Lake is a great place to go birdwatching.

5. The park is home to ten of the 28 orchid species recorded from the Cayman Islands.

Before heading back to your Grand Cayman rental, be sure to stop by the Visitor Centre to find a keepsake to remember your trip by.
